With the final match fixture of the 2017 African Cup of Nations between Egypt and Cameroon coming up, there is no better time to look back at all the records that the Egyptian team smashed during this tournament.
1. Most participations in AFCON history (23 appearances)

Egypt's 22 record appearances set in AFCON 2010 in Angola was put on hold after the Egyptians failed to qualify for 3 consecutive tournaments. However, after featuring in this years AFCON Cup in Gabon, they extend their record of most appearances to 23 appearances, with the closest contenders being Ivory Coast with 22 appearances
2. Most AFCON final match appearances (9)

After reaching the final game of the tournament, Egypt extends their own record of 8 final appearances. Egypt were successful in winning 7 of the 8 finals that they reached.
3. Oldest player in AFCON history ( El-Hadary: 44 years old )

Egypt's long running goalkeeper Essam El-Hadary became the oldest player to ever play in an AFCON tournament with a staggering 44 years old! (touch wood!)
Not only that, El-Hadary hopes to be the oldest player ever to play in the FIFA World Cup Finals by helping Egypt reach the finals in Russia next year.
4. Oldest player to reach AFCON final ( El-Hadary: 44 years old )

Not only is Essam El-Hadary the oldest player to participate in the history of the AFCON Cup, he is also the oldest player to reach an AFCON final after Egypt beat Burkina Faso on penalties last Wednesday.
5. Most final game appearances by a player (El-Hadary: 5)

Yet another record set by the legendary goalkeeper. After the final match on Sunday, Essam El-Hadary would have played in 5 AFCON finals (1998, 2006, 2008, 2010 and 2017), more than any other player in the history of the tournament.
6. Longest unbeaten run in AFCON history (24 matches)

After losing 2-1 to Algeria in the 2004 AFCON Cup in Tunisia, the Egyptian team has not since lost a match in 24 matches over 4 different AFCON tournaments, spanning an unbeaten run of nearly 13 years.
7. Finally break abysmal record against Morocco

The last time Egypt beat Morocco was in the semi final of the 1986 AFCON Cup in Egypt, in which Egypt went on to beat Cameroon in the final match. Since then, Egypt has failed to beat Morocco on 12 occasions. So by beating Morocco in the quarter finals of the 2017 AFCON Cup, Egypt finally breaks the "Moroccan jinks", which lasted 31 years.
8. The Magic Number!
Hopefully "8" is the magic number and the Egyptian team is able to set record number "8" by winning their "8th" AFCON title!

Best of Luck to the PHARAOHS!
