La La Land was a nice movie to take your partner to on a date. The songs were pretty nice and the acting was good, but to be honest La La Land was an over romantic piece that admires a time that doesn't exist anymore. It`s a very fine piece of work but it doesn't deserve to win “the best picture”. It was very embarrassing when the academy at first announced that La La Land was the one who won the best picture but then it turned out to be a mistake and Moonlight was the winner instead. The Academy`s mistake kind of overshadowed moonlight`s win.

Let`s talk about the winner, Moonlight. Moonlight is a movie that actually fits in with 2017 America. Many people and most critics fell in love with the movie because it portrayed the very difficult three stages of black boy`s life. Moonlight portrays the real America, from poverty to abuses and the questioning of sexuality.
No matter what circumstances, Moonlight knew how to win the best picture while its budget was only $1.5 million. The film has broken many barriers in many ways. Moonlight is the first all-black cast to win and the first LGBT movie to win. Also moonlight broke all the records when Mahershala Ali, Muslim man, won the best supporting actor.

“The Oscar’s Best Picture winner, Moonlight, however, has given me hope that perhaps there is a way for stories about the marginalized, made by the marginalized, to find space. The breakout film of the year has centered black masculinity and queerness in the public discourse—an impressive feat. Both a critical and commercial success, the film brilliantly explores how one’s environment and experiences can shape who that person becomes—or at least, how that person portrays him or herself to the outside world.”
